These are not good times for the economy. The price of everything – especially gas – seems to be rising every single day and salaries aren’t going anywhere. In fact, there are jobs being lost every day. Yet families need to take vacations. Here are 5 tips for planning a cheap summer vacation destination.

1. Eat in

The cost of the vacation isn’t simply doing things, seeing things, and staying overnight places. Often the majority of the money you spend is spent at restaurants. So you can dramatically cut your costs by making your own food. It can be as simple as buying a loaf of bread along with peanut butter and jelly and a bag of chips. Every meal you make yourself will save you a lot of money.

2. Go to built-in fun

Another great tip for planning a summer vacation spots is to go to places where you don’t have to pay to have fun. Go to the mountains where you can hike, camp, and swim. Go to the ocean where you can spend your days on the beach and swimming. This will save you lots of money.

3. Explore close to home

With the price of gas, this is a really great tip. Before you drive or fly across the country, explore the great things that are closer to home. If you do a little research on the Internet you’ll be surprised by the great things you find. Try to keep your travel to under 250 miles if at all possible.

4. Go at non-peak

Everything is more expensive at peak times. So places that are built for tourists will jack their prices up when they know they’ll be packed with guests. But that doesn’t mean the summer vacation destinations aren’t fun at non-peak times. In fact, they can be even more fun. So try to plan your trip when it’s cheapest.

5. Look into rentals

Instead of spending a lot of money to stay at a hotel or motel look into renting a place for a week. You may be able to find a nice little cabin. Or you could rent a huge house and take a vacation with friends and family members. You will save a lot of money in the long run.

The family that plays together stays together. Therefore, it’s important to take a family vacation. However, it can be very expensive. 5 tips for planning a cheap family vacation are to eat in, go to built-in fun, explore close to home, go at non-peak, and look into rentals.

The history of flight is a history of many powerful, innovative machines and the brave men and women who piloted them. Military aircraft have historically been at the cutting edge of aeronautics technology and the Wings of Eagles Discovery Center makes sure that these marvels are available for viewing by the public at large.

This museum is one that brings forth the awe that can only be felt standing in the presence of these aircraft. To see a fighter jet on television is one thing but to see one in person gives a sense of the enormous power they have and of the incredible skill it takes to bend this power toward purpose. The weapons used by these fighters are also housed at the museums in the form of some of the missiles that they carried from their wings. Not only modern aircraft are here, however, some of the planes piloted by the daring World War 2 airmen are also held here, telling of a history that seems at once very close and far in the past.

Whether you’re embarking on a relaxing water vacation or a family reunion vacation , it’s going to be a time to remember we’ve taken, we tend to remember them best with pictures. Here’s some ideas to enhance your trip as well as your memories of them.

LOCATION PREPARATION

Since you know where you’re going (that’s a minimum requirement), doesn’t it make sense to check out the location before you get there? Create a list of attractions, accommodations, special points of interest, amusement areas, shopping, etc. A good source to help you do this is the “Places and Travel section” of msn.com.

Next, figure out the photo opportunities for each appropriate venue. Anyone can take a “so-so” picture of the kids at an amusement park. But wouldn’t you rather capture a WOW masterpiece that could be hung over the mantle?

Whether you’re going on a family reunion vacation or a mountain vacation, check out the books written about the destination and highlight the best photo opportunities BEFORE YOU GET THERE.

If you’re taking a skiing vacation to a more remote area, scout out the national parks in the area. The great thing about national parks is that the scenery is so breathtaking, that an average picture looks outstanding… just because of the location. Once in www.nps.gov, Do an Internet search for possible photos at the National Park Service or simply do a Google search on the location. Phenomenal shots will present themselves all over the place!

PHOTOGRAPHY PREPARATION

Here’s a typical scenario… you’re up at the crack of dawn (OK, not realistic for many of us, including me, but go with me here) and you’re just pulling into the most scenic overlook for 400 miles as the sun is starting to break the horizon.

You instinctively pull the car over, grab your camera and your tripod, and look for the best spot to set up. There’s just one tiny little problem… You Didn’t Take Your Tripod on this family reunion vacation . Rather than smack yourself on the forehead, why not plan for these things now, by constructing a list BEFORE you leave?

Your list should include AT LEAST the following:

Tripod
Do I need to repeat – BRING YOUR TRIPOD? It doesn’t take up much room, and it allows you to capture entirely new categories of images that wouldn’t be possible without one

Memory
Bring all the memory you have. But don’t stop there; also pack your portable storage devices if you have any.

Flash
If your camera has a hot shoe, bring your external flash, and any additional equipment that can be used to help with bounce flash. Also, don’t forget to use it during the daytime to make your pictures really jump off the page.

Shutter Release Cable
Remember your external shutter release cable for those long exposures. How else are you going to get that “angel-hair” look of the waterfalls without camera-shake ruining the picture?

Remember the Basics
Don’t forget the basics like: batteries, battery charger, camera bag, and additional lenses and filters (if applicable on your camera).

User Manual
And just in case you need it, bring the manuals for your equipment. It’s only when you start to use things that you realize you forgot how!

Finally, don’t get so wrapped up in taking the perfect photo that you don’t enjoy the trip. And, remember to use the tripod so that you’ll be in at least some of the shots.
