One of the hidden gems you will want to put on your Washington DC attraction list is the Rock Creek Park. Here you will have a chance to have some peace and quite while you take a break from the hurrying from one museum to another. You will be able to stroll though the wooded paths and see all the wild plants that grow in the area. You can even take a few minutes and visit the planetarium where you will be able to explore the wonders of the sky.

While you are walking along the paths you may see whitetail deer, raccoons, foxes or signs of beaver. You may even see one of the coyotes that have been noticed in the area. The park has the largest density of raccoons in the US park service you are more than likely to catch a glimpse of one of them, maybe washing their food or just strolling along like you are.

You can sign up to take a tour with one on the Park Rangers. They offer horseback, walking or biking tours to show you the different areas of the park. If you want to take the bike tour you have to bring your own bike. There are tours for all ages so check out the schedule at the visitor center and pick the one that is right for you and your family. Then go, enjoy nature and some quiet before heading back to the museums and cultural activities in the city.
